The 50th Anniversary edition of THE I HATE TO COOK BOOK, written by Peg Bracken, will be published on July 26, 2010.
The book has a terrific cover with retro graphic art. I'm not sure I can relate to the title, however...
I have to admit I've never heard of this book, although it's been around for so many years. Is anyone else familiar with it?
I found a New York Times obituary for the author, who passed away in 2007.

Never heard of it either.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of it either?! I'm curious about it because my beau, who hates to cook, has expressed interest in learning a few basics so he can help me out in the kitchen. He hates the recipes in "A Man a Can and a Plan" http://www.amazon.com/Man-Can-Plan-Great-Meals/dp/B000RK718W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277471859&sr=1-1 . I have an old copy of Help! My Apartment Has a Kitchen but I can't find it! http://www.amazon.com/Help-Apartment-Has-Kitchen-Cookbook/dp/0618711759/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277471880&sr=1-1
ReplyDeleteThanks to both of you for the feedback. If you and Carlos try it out, be sure to let me know, Raquelle!

I remember this wonderfully irreverent cookbook! I was surprised to learn it was illustrated by Hilary Knight -- as a child, I always loved her drawings in two of my favorite book series: Eloise and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. I just "Googled" Hilary Knight because I was curious to know more about her and imagine my surprise to learn she's a he!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't realized that the cookbook was illustrated by Hilary Knight, how interesting! We have many Knight-illustrated books on our shelves. :)

50 years? Oh, my, I am old. I remember this book and I think I read it but I do not remember if my mother owned a copy.
ReplyDeleteMrs. UNG here. My mom had this book - it has the best chocolate cake recipe using vinegar and no eggs. Of course, that's what I would remember.
ReplyDeleteThat's so fun, Mrs. UNG! Love that. :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Laura
My mother loved Bracken's "I Hate to Housekeep" book. Lots of practical advice which she passed along to me.
