TCM announced today that passes for the 2015 TCM Classic Film Festival will go on sale on Thursday, November 13th.
Next year's festival will be held in Hollywood from March 26th through 29th, 2015.
TCM also announced the first four titles to be shown at the festival, all of which are restorations, designed to fit in with next year's "History According to Hollywood" theme:
*STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. (1928) with a new live score conducted by Carl Davis
*THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (1939)
*SPARTACUS (1960)
*APOLLO 13 (1995)
Although I generally prefer that TCM and its festival focus on older movies, I must say I'm quite excited at the prospect of seeing the inspiring APOLLO 13 on a big screen once more. I recently named it a runner-up to my list of 10 Favorite Films of the Last 25 Years. It's a wonderful film, and in terms of the setting and style it's certainly a great fit to be shown alongside movies of the classic film era. I especially love Ed Harris and Gary Sinise as the men on the ground leading the effort to save the ship ("Failure is not an option!"). It will be especially wonderful to see the launch sequence again on a big screen.
