Straight Talk From Fred Thompson

America needs more of this common sense, small government thinking: Thompson was asked whether "as a Christian, as a conservative" he would continue President Bush’s programs to combat global AIDS.

Thompson: "Christ didn’t tell us to go to the government and pass a bill to get some of these social problems dealt with. He told us to do it."

There's more -- read it all.

Thompson's poll numbers in South Carolina are rising as Huckabee's are falling.

The Corner's Peter Robinson says Thompson excitement is building in South Carolina. We can only hope.

I'm getting awfully tired of the media declaring the primaries about over when they're just getting started.

There must be a better way to nominate a Presidential candidate than an endless year of way-too-early buildup followed by being told the competition is over after four or five states vote...

Tuesday Update: More on Thompson momentum from Jonathan Adler at The Corner.

  1. I much prefer Thompson to Huckabee! But you're right, I also think that the media's input (re: he wins this primary or he's done) affects the voters. People don't want to "waste" their votes for fear the other guy they REALLY don't like will win! Maybe they should have all the primaries on the same day. Then what would those politicians do???

  2. I so agree with you - there must be a better way. If the country weren't so big, I'd suggest they come to all our houses for dinner, but that's patently ridiculous. It would be loads of fun, though, wouldn't it?!

Thompson sounds so good. I wish he'd make more waves so more people would hear him so he'd have a really really good chance. A contest between him and Obama would wake many of us up, and be interesting, I think.

  3. Thompson's getting hammered in S.C. polling. Who knows how long he'll hold out after a loss this weekend. Look for an exit announcement soon.

  4. I'd sure be sad about that...being left with a bunch of RINOs to choose from is a sad prospect for this conservative...

    Best wishes,

  5. S.C. isn't until NEXT weekend - only the democrats are up for it today in S.C. (no, I don't know why they vote on different days). Sadly, FDT lost in Nevada, I see.
