Actress Linda Christian, who was the second of legendary actor Tyrone Power's three wives, has passed away at the age of 87.
Christian and Power were married from 1949 to 1956, and she was the mother of his daughters, Romina and Taryn.
Christian's first substantive film part was the supporting role of Hine-Moa in the excellent costume soap opera GREEN DOLPHIN STREET (1947), which starred Lana Turner, Donna Reed, and Van Heflin.
She also appeared in TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS (1948), THE HAPPY TIME (1952), the Jane Powell-Debbie Reynolds musical ATHENA (1954), and THE HOUSE OF THE SEVEN HAWKS (1959) with Robert Taylor.
Here is a very good, detailed obituary which mentions that, technically speaking, Christian was the first "Bond girl," as she appeared in a 1954 TV production of CASINO ROYALE. Barry Nelson played James Bond.
Laura, I remember seeing that that 1950s version of CASINO ROYALE at The Museum of TV and Radio (I think that's what it was called; they might have changed the name by now), starring Linda Christian, Peter Lorre, and Barry Nelson as "Jimmy" Bond! :-) Actually, Nelson wasn't bad, considering he's not British. Lorre stole the show. Anyway, so sorry to hear that Linda Christian died, but at least she had a long life, bless her. She will be missed.
