A Trip to Northern Arizona University

We've arrived safely back home from our whirlwind trip to take our son to his freshman year at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Although our son had visited the campus previously, this was our first visit, and we came away very enthused. The campus is beautiful, and the mountain environment is perfect for our son, who loves the great outdoors when he's not busy working on a computer.

Thanks to the WUE program, California students get an excellent price break on tuition at NAU, and NAU also pledges not to raise tuition for all four years, which is very attractive when Cal State universities are raising tuition multiple times per year.

NAU also offers multiple mentor programs, such as Peer Jacks, which helps out-of-state freshmen in the WUE program succeed at their new school.

Flagstaff's elevation is just under 7000 feet, so our son will have the experience of living in a snowy locale for the first time.

Later this weekend I plan to share a few more photos of our "road trip" and historic downtown Flagstaff.

  1. Hi, Laura - It's a big moment driving away and leaving your child behind to start a college career. It sounds as if NAU is a great fit for your son and you'll all be very happy about his choice! Congratulations on reaching this milestone. Jane

  2. Thank you so much, Jane! It definitely is a big moment. It was a little easier with No. 1 because she was less than an hour away -- although we got used to the "far away" thing when she lived in England for a semester! :) It's an exciting time, for certain.

    Best wishes,
    Laura
