French actress Danielle Darrieux turns 100 today.
Darrieux was born in Bordeaux, France on May 1, 1917.
While most of Darrieux's films were made in Europe, in the U.S. she starred in one of my favorite '30s romantic comedies, THE RAGE OF PARIS (1938), costarring Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
A number of years later she played Jane Powell's mother in the MGM musical RICH, YOUNG AND PRETTY (1951).
Danielle Darrieux has approximately 140 credits and was acting as recently as 2010. Her other films include LA RONDE (1950), THE EARRINGS OF MADAME DE... (1953), and UNE CHAMBRE EN VILLE (1982).
All of the films mentioned in this post are being shown on Turner Classic Movies this evening in celebration of her centennial. For more information please visit TCM in May: Highlights.
Happiest Birthday Wishes!
October 2017 Update: Danielle Darrieux Dies at 100.
