...Doris Day's longtime home in Carmel is on the market, with proceeds set to benefit her animal foundation. Check out the photographs at the link; the house looks exactly like a place one would expect Doris to live, filled with sunshine.

...Coming from Kino Lorber Studio Classics in November: DRAGNET (1954), with a commentary track by Toby Roan, and THE LOST WEEKEND (1945), with a commentary track by Joseph McBride.

...Raquel Stecher has written about "Color Films of Yasujiro Ozu (1958-1962)" for Netflix's DVD site. The first Ozu films I saw were in color, and as much as I enjoy his black and white movies, it's the color visuals which linger in my mind.

...Coming to Disney+ on October 30th: Season 2 of THE MANDALORIAN. Can't wait!

...Last year I paid tribute to dancing great Marge Champion on her centennial birthday. Last week Marge turned 101 on September 2nd.

...The Guardian ran an interesting article on muffled dialogue in modern movies. I've had issues with this myself, while classic films seen in theaters are never a problem in this regard.

...HOLIDAY MAGIC AT THE DISNEY PARKS by Graham Allan, Rebecca Cline, and Charlie Price is a "must buy" Disney book for me this fall. It's out from Disney Editions Deluxe on October 20th. The Walt Disney Family Museum will be celebrating the book with an online program November 7th.

...Former longtime Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully is now on Twitter and Instagram!

...Disney and Marvel had been unaware of Chadwick Boseman's cancer battle and now have big decisions to make regarding the future of the BLACK PANTHER series.

...A reminder that the new book FILM NOIR STYLE: THE KILLER 1940S by Kimberly Truhler of GlamAmor will be out at the end of the month. The publication will be celebrated with a free program via Zoom. Kim will be busy this month, as her "The Style of Sin" series on pre-Code fashions continues via Zoom on September 20th with a look at fashions designed for Jean Harlow.

...Notable Passings: Computer designer Arnold Spielberg, father of Stephen Spielberg, has died at 103. The elder Spielberg had quite an interesting career, detailed by Mike Barnes for The Hollywood Reporter. His achievements included designing the first electronic cash register...Former Walt Disney World President Judson Green has died at 68...One of baseball's all-time greatest pitchers, Tom Seaver, has passed on at 75.
