Congratulations, Justice Alito!!

The final vote was 58 ayes, 42 nos.

Per Brian Wilson of Fox News Channel, the newly sworn Justice Alito will be present this evening at the President's State of the Union address.

Update: Chief Justice Roberts has sworn in our newest Supreme Court Justice.

Well, it looks like we've been burned again! Alito sided with the liberals in his very first case! I wonder what Harriet Miers would have done? Unbelieveable!

I'm going to give him a "first day settling in" pass (grin) and see what develops in future...his past record is reassuring. Fingers crossed! Laura

Bench Memos (http://bench.nationalreview.com/) doesn't seem to feel that what happened on the death penalty appeal was particularly significant. I don't know enough about the details myself to render a judgment.
