The Magic of Red Velvet Cake

The New York Times has a fun Valentine's Day article on Red Velvet Cake. Dare I confess I've never, ever had Red Velvet Cake? I'm going to have to rectify that...

I made it as the red component for a red, white & blue July 4th birthday cake two years ago. Some people (mainly those who knew what it was) loved it and devoured their pieces. Those who had never heard of it or seen it before were not pleased with eating red cake - in fact one guy couldn't make himself even taste it. Goes to show you - there's a big world out there with lots of different reactions and tastes! (P.S. I LOVE it!! It's moist, delicious and fun to eat.)
