I tell you what, a by-product of watching all these noirs- I a bigger fan of Robert Mitchum than I was before. And now I am eager to see those MGM noirs that were released last month. It seems Edward G. Robinson virtually had another career in noir, that I believe is just being re--discovered.
You're very welcome! As a lifelong MGM fan I am so intrigued by noir casts with people like Montalban and Charisse. :)
I completely agree re Mitchum. Over the last year, in particular, I have become a big fan. In the past I'd seen him more in non-noir movies and things like WAR AND REMEMBRANCE.
Have you seen BLOOD ON THE MOON yet? It's a noirish Western directed by Robert Wise, with Barbara Bel Geddes. If you run out of his noir movies, I recommend checking it out. PURSUED is another favorite "dark" Western. But I bet you may have already seen these too!
I've got a few of his movies on tape to look forward to for the first time, including THE LUSTY MEN, THE SUNDOWNERS, and ONE MINUTE TO ZERO.

I agree about Mitchum, too. I hated him as a kid, maybe he was too dark or subtle for me; hard to know. But I'm coming to appreciate him from "Blood on the Moon" and the one with Robert Taylor and Kate Hepburn (can't remember the name) and, of course, "Out of the Past" which I love. And apparently he was a consummate professional, which is cool too.
