Marching Band a Threat to Hearing?

My husband the trombonist was the quintessential "band kid" in both high school and college. I wonder about this issue every time he's got the TV turned up unaccountably loud...

On the other hand, it seems like to some extent this would be an issue playing with any large musical group, if you're sitting right in the middle of all the instruments. Is hearing loss something typically experienced by orchestra members, for example?

In any event, something for band parents to think about!
