Coming to DVD: Pillow Talk (1959)
A 50th Anniversary Edition of PILLOW TALK, starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson, will be released on April 14, 2009.
PILLOW TALK has previously been released without extras, other than the trailer.
According to DVD Times, extras for the 50th Anniversary release will include featurettes and a commentary track by Jeff Bond, Julie Kirgo, and Nick Redman.
I do wish Universal would release more titles from their library, instead of releasing the same movies over and over, but on the other hand I'm delighted to see one of Doris Day and Rock Hudson's best movies receive a nice upgrade.
Now if only they'd release some movies which have never had a DVD release...

My favorite Doris Day! You don't get much sillier fun than this. And Polly Bergen's "Bianca" owns the Drama Queen title!
I'm so excited! While I don't really care for extras, I really hope they remastered it. The color could use some help.
The original DVD is one I own and it has the trailer along with cast bios & filmography.
Do you own the original? Are you going to upgrade?
I enjoyed your recent post on going to see this film with your friends, Raquelle. My daughter watched this with her cinema class at USC a few months ago and likewise mentioned how wonderfully the movie played with a crowd.
I have the original but will probably upgrade, being a major Doris fan. :) (Having a second copy isn't necessarily a bad thing as our daughter always stakes a large stack of movies with her to school -- even when it's in London, grin.) I'm one of those who loves extras and the "film school in a box" aspect of commentaries and featurettes. I only wish I had more time to watch the extras -- it's always a tough decision between watching a commentary or something completely new!
I do with they'd asked Drew Casper of USC to do a commentary. He's the ultimate Day fan and I'm sure he would have had a lot of interesting info to share.
Hi Dana! Isn't it a great movie? Polly Bergen was in another wonderful Doris movie, MOVE OVER DARLING -- it was released in a very nice edition a year or two ago. That one costarred one of my faves, James Garner. Both movies are wonderful!
Best wishes,
Laura
With reference to this, and also the John Wayne Special Editions re-releases that you wrote about, for Pete's sake how many times is a person expected to shell out for a new and "better" edition of the same movie? I have no one to hand older editions to so I would not waste my money. I totally conform with your comment that the distributors should be more constructive by releasing some movies that have never been issued on DVD.
Oh Laura, you're right! Of course it was in Pillow Talk! And she was terrific in that. I momentarily blanked out....duh. I still enjoyed this one as well. It's always fun to see the "party-lines" that people lived with. It seems so antiquated. Thanks for correcting me.
