Lincoln's Watch

History buffs will enjoy a story about the Smithsonian investigating a mystery inside President Lincoln's watch. (Click title of post.) What they found, with the help of an expert watchmaker, is quite interesting.

What a great story. Having a daughter who does Civil War reenacting, we find this kind of stuff fascinating. I also ran across a story yesterday about what is believed to be the last photo ever taken of Lincoln and also the only photo of him actually in front of the White House. I can't do links here, but you can do a cut and paste I hope.

I read the article about the lost photo, too - interesting that they think there's around 133 known photos of him! Our local radio station started out the story on the watch as something out of National Treasure (one of my favs!)

Thanks for that additional story, Irene! Fascinating stuff. I think I've mentioned before, we have a friend who is in a Civil War band.

Carrie, I've added NATIONAL TREASURE to my Netflix queue. I haven't caught up with that one yet but it sounds like fun for a history buff.

Best wishes,
Laura

I don't remember your mentioning a friend in a Civil War band (but that means absolutely nothing as I do get forgetful sometimes LOL). It wouldn't by any chance be The Band of the California Battalion out of Long Beach City College would it?

Hi Irene! It's the Americus Brass Band, originally out of Long Beach State; here's the website.

We actually know most of the people in this band, though not as well as the friend I was referring to in my previous comment. (BTW, our mutual friends who attend your church attended LB State and are friends with most of this group.)

Best wishes,
Laura
