Today at Disneyland and DCA: Birthday Celebration

Today was our younger daughter's birthday! We had done our school lessons in advance so that we could take the day off and meet fellow homeschooling friends at Disneyland to celebrate her special day.

It rained a bit, but overall it was a lovely day, despite the sun not putting in an appearance. The weather seemed appropriate, as the day our daughter was born was also a rainy day!

Today's flowers at Town Square:

Here's an "artsy-craftsy" photo of a colorful section of the "photo op" area for guests who are celebrating a special day at the park this year:

Since we're annual passholders and our daughter didn't need this year's free birthday admission promotion, she was able to claim a gift card -- worth the same amount as a one-day ticket -- at City Hall. We were happy to discover it didn't have to be spent all in one day; she had fun choosing a new shirt and bracelet, then saved the rest to use on future trips.

Speaking of shopping, there was an attractive new merchandise line in shades of blue (click to enlarge):

I picked up a navy blue addition to my ever-growing collection of Disneyland mugs.

Over at Big Thunder Ranch, they're getting ready to unveil the Celebration Roundup and Barbecue next month:

We have really missed the Big Thunder BBQ restaurant and are hoping this is a viable replacement, although the suggestion that reservations are needed seems to indicate it may be a more expensive dinner show type restaurant.

After a few hours at Disneyland we went over to Disney's California Adventure, where there were also beautiful flowers in bloom:

A sign at the Disney's World of Color construction site at Paradise Pier:

And here's the actual construction site, viewed from the bridge to Paradise Pier:

It was fun to discover that anyone celebrating their birthday receives a free bag of fresh tortillas at the Mission Tortilla Factory, rather than just a sample.

All in all, a wonderful day!

That is one nice thing about California -- you can celebrate a winter birthday out of doors without freezing.

Well, it's nice to know that you can get the gift card at City Hall and not stand in line at the ticket booths! I'll be taking the teacher I work for on her birthday next Wednesday. She hasn't been in at least 20 years. We're playing hooky from class :o)

It was really easy, Irene. You can do the button and gift card all at once.

On the other hand, if it's a blockout date but you're in the "passport renewal window" and want to put the ticket price toward renewing your passport, I think you have to stand at a ticket booth since you can't go inside.

From what I could find out, if it's a blockout date but you're not in the "renewal window," your other options are to upgrade your passport or to buy a blockout ticket, then go in and get a gift card, which they said would net the passholder $29.

Just FYI!
Best wishes,
Laura

So many options ... makes the head spin. I know when it is my birthday in November it will not be a block out day and I will be in the renewal window. I guess I'll decide what to do when the time comes. As of now I'm thinking of using it toward renewal. I have so much "stuff" now, not sure I need more :)
