Fox Movie Channel in September: Highlights

Here's a preview of some of the classic films on the Fox Movie Channel's September schedule!

...On Labor Day, September 5th, Alice Faye stars in HELLO FRISCO, HELLO (1943). Costarring are John Payne, Lynn Bari, Jack Oakie, and Laird Cregar. The film has beautiful Oscar-nominated Technicolor cinematography and the Oscar-winning Best Song "You'll Never Know," written by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon.

...GOOD MORNING, MISS DOVE (1955) also airs on the 5th. It stars Jennifer Jones as a dedicated teacher, based on the novel by Frances Gray Patton. Robert Stack costars.

...HOLD THAT CO-ED (1938) airs on September 6th, starring George Murphy, Marjorie Weaver, and...John Barrymore?

...THE PLEASURE SEEKERS (1964) is director Jean Negulesco's updated loose remake of his own THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN (1954), which was set in Rome. This time around Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Carol Lynley look for love in Madrid. The air date is September 12th.

...On September 13th, SWEET ROSIE O'GRADY (1943) stars Betty Grable and Robert Young, with a supporting cast including Adolphe Menjou, Reginald Gardiner, and Virginia Grey.

...Later on the 13th, Robert Young returns in CLAUDIA AND DAVID (1946), costarring Dorothy McGuire. It's a sequel to CLAUDIA (1943). Young and McGuire also starred in THE ENCHANTED COTTAGE (1945) and LITTLE WOMEN (1978).

...If you've never seen ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM (1946), the straight dramatic version of THE KING AND I, it has excellent lead casting in Rex Harrison and Irene Dunne. Ironically, they would have been able to carry out the musical's requirements in fine fashion! Linda Darnell costars as Tuptim. ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM will be shown September 14th.

...THE ADVENTURES OF HAJJI BABA (1954) will be shown on September 22nd. The movie stars the incredibly beautiful Elaine Stewart, who passed away this summer. John Derek costars. Unfortunately the last time this CinemaScope film was shown on Fox, it was a pan and scan print. Occasionally Fox upgrades their prints (BLACK WIDOW is an example), but let the viewer beware.

...Monday, September 26th, Fox shows DAVID AND BATHSHEBA (1951), starring Gregory Peck and Susan Hayward. I can't recall this one being shown on Fox, at least in the last couple of years.

...Later on the 26th, Bette Davis stars in THE VIRGIN QUEEN (1955). Richard Todd, Herbert Marshall, and Joan Collins costar.

...THE GANG'S ALL HERE (1943), a Busby Berkeley extravaganza starring Alice Faye and Carmen Miranda, will be shown on September 29th. When I saw this film in a revival theater at a young age, it made a big impression!

...The month ends on September 30th with Laird Cregar, Merle Oberon, and George Sanders in THE LODGER (1944), which I saw for the first time and reviewed last May.

Keep in mind that Fox often shows films more than once per month; I've only listed one date per title. Consult the schedule for additional air dates.

These are just a handful of the classic films airing on Fox Movie Channel in September. Due to the extremely repetitive nature of Fox's schedule, viewers may want to check out my post on Fox's August schedule for more possible titles airing in September.

Happy viewing!
