In Disney News...

Here's this month's roundup of the latest Disney news!

...The Spring issue of Disney Twenty-three has been shipped to subscribers -- my copy came late last week -- and hit bookstores yesterday, February 12th. The cover features the new film OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (2013). The issue includes an article on Walt Disney's early attempts to bring OZ to the screen, a celebration of Animal Kingdom's 15th anniversary, artwork from the upcoming FROZEN (2013), the story of Walt Disney and the Arribas Brothers glassmakers, and an article on Walt Disney's return to regular commercial filmmaking after WWII.

...It was recently announced that an upcoming film with the working title 1952 will be called TOMORROWLAND and star George Clooney. Brad Bird directs. As part of the publicity, Bird has shared a box of items said to be related in some way to the film, which were later identified by a Disney archivist. It will be interesting to see what TOMORROWLAND turns out to be about.

...Disneyland Park Vice President Jon Storbeck recently began writing about the Main Street tribute windows for the official Disney Parks blog. Here are his posts on Marty Sklar and Wally Boag.

...First Showing has the UK trailer for MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (2013).

...Albert Brooks has been signed for FINDING NEMO 2.

...The latest update from Al Lutz at MiceAge has lots of news. I must say that if the report is accurate, I'm surprised that the Golden Horseshoe show received negative feedback in these "anything goes in show biz" times. It seems that Miss Lily and the dance hall girls ran afoul of the P.C. police.

...Coming this summer to Disneyland's Fantasyland Theater: Mickey and the Magical Map.

...The title for Pete Docter's next Pixar film has been announced: INSIDE OUT. The sketch and concept remind me of Frank Capra's HEMO THE MAGNIFICENT (1957).

...This article on Five Favorite Disney World Pools makes me want to return! So does this tribute to Beaches and Cream, located at one of my favorite places anywhere, the Beach Club Resort.

...I love this Monorail coffee mug!

...ABC has ordered a TV pilot based on the Big Thunder Mountain ride. Okaaaay.

...Leonard Maltin recently hosted a special evening at the El Capitan Theatre celebrating the 60th anniversary of PETER PAN (1953).

...Leonard also recently wrote an interesting post on Disney animation art, including new flipbooks I mentioned last month.

...Audio-animatronics designer Roger Broggie Jr. has passed on at the age of 73. He worked on the Enchanted Tiki Room, Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Broggie was the son of an Imagineer; in fact, eight Broggie family members have worked for Disney! Diane Disney Miller posted a tribute at the Walt Disney Family Museum website.

...Dateline Disneyland at MiceChat has gorgeous photos of the latest happenings at the Anaheim resort. I also shared a few photos of the Lunar New Year celebration in Disney California Adventure last weekend.

...If all goes as planned, I'll be heading to the El Capitan in a few days to see MULAN (1998).
