Quick Preview of TCM in January

Turner Classic Movies has now posted its online preview of the January 2015 schedule.

As I write this, the schedule is apparently in a state of flux, appearing and disappearing, so if the schedule link doesn't work please try again later.

The January Star of the Month is Robert Redford, with the Friday Night Spotlight devoted to the films of Neil Simon.

In all honesty neither gentleman is of interest to me, but hopefully the month will delight their fans.

That said, there are numerous other things of interest in the January schedule; for me the best day of the month is January 15th, which is devoted to "B" films directed by William Beaudine. Lots of Joan Woodbury (top left), Marjorie Weaver (bottom right), Gale Storm, and Dona Drake makes the day a winner for me! That day's lineup alone could keep me busy watching movies for the better part of the month.

January also features tributes to the Marx Brothers, Lew Ayres, Jean Arthur, Loretta Young, Elvis Presley, Luise Rainer (who is due to turn 105 on January 12th!), Richard Thorpe, Patricia Neal, Donna Reed, Henry Mancini, Mario Lanza, and Fritz Lang. And that's just for starters!

I'll be sharing more detailed information about the January schedule sometime around New Year's Eve.

The November theme is "Silent Stars," and the one and only Cary Grant will be the Star of the Month for December. I'm also really looking forward to MGM musical director Charles Walters being the subject of December's Friday Night Spotlight series!
