TCM Star of the Month: Glenn Ford

Actor Glenn Ford is the July Star of the Month on Turner Classic Movies.

This will be Ford's third time as Star of the Month. He was previously the Star of the Month in June 1994, and he was also honored nearly 18 years ago, in November 2001.

Over three dozen Ford films will be shown on Monday evenings, continuing into Tuesday. The series begins tonight, July 1st.

Among the above films, my favorite is EXPERIMENT IN TERROR, a really fine suspense film with Ford as a calm and reassuring FBI agent helping San Francisco bank teller Lee Remick. It's a terrific movie which I've enjoyed multiple times.

I also received particular pleasure from THE BIG HEAT, GILDA, THE FASTEST GUN ALIVE, FATE IS THE HUNTER, and TORPEDO RUN.

I haven't seen Jubal in ages. Experiment in Terror and Dear Heart are can't-turn-away films. The Big Heat was a fave of my dad's. I found Terror on a Train to be a bit of a dud. I wish they had The Desperadoes on tap, but I shouldn't be surprised if I have it about the house somewhere.

I don't think people should overlook The Doctor and the Girl. The title does nothing to let you know that it is a very interesting drama. I believe Jacqueline at Another Old Movie Blog did a nice piece on the film years ago.

DEAR HEART is one I need to see, thank you for mentioning it!

I agree, I love THE DESPERADOES and wish it was on the schedule. I also wish they'd worked in FRAMED (1947). I wonder if they no longer can show Columbias as easily as they used to?

I also agree about THE DOCTOR AND THE GIRL, it was an interesting drama with some unexpected story directions. I enjoyed it.

I liked TERROR ON A TRAIN okay, though it's not a standout for me...the one I really didn't care for on the list is TRIAL which was the rare film I just didn't like much at all, other than Juano Hernandez, who is always great, and John Hodiak.

Thanks so much, as always, for sharing your thoughts!!

Best wishes,
Laura

I don't think I realized what a filmography he had so I didn't really explore that in past viewing history. A lot of these films are new to me. BLACKBOARD JUNGLE was a really good movie. Looking forward to THE DOCTOR AND THE GIRL. And A STOLEN LIFE was fun if utterly ridiculous, Bette Davis lucked out:)
