Laura, I agree with everything you say here about one of my favorite actresses. The first time I remember seeing Kim Novak was in the astonishing VERTIGO(filmed 1957, released 1958) on the NBC SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES November 13, 1965. I was mesmerized with my eyes transfixed on the old black and white RCA Victor tv screen.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM NOVAK!
Thank you for sharing in wishing Kim Novak a happy birthday, Walter! What a marvelous memory of seeing her for the first time in VERTIGO. It must have been even more remarkable when you later saw it in color!
Best wishes,
Laura
Laura, I didn't see VERTIGO in color until I rented a pan-and-scan VHS tape in the mid 1980's and later, during the late 1990's, I bought the MCA/Universal VHS Home Video widescreen tape, which I still have. The cover is the eye-catching Saul Bass designed starring credits. I remember, at the time, thinking, "WOW!" finally getting to view the movie as intended.
In 1983 I recall reading about the Universal Pictures re-release of VERTIGO to movie theaters. Also, viewing a segment about this on the old ENTERTAIMENT TONIGHT news show. I thought that it would really be something to see the movie on the big screen. Of course, I wasn't able to, but hopefully I will someday.
Walter, I loved hearing your viewing history of VERTIGO. We only parted ways with our VHS copy of VERTIGO recently!
I feel fortunate that my first viewing of VERTIGO, close to ten years ago, was a 70mm print at the Egyptian Theatre. I brought a couple of my kids along, and I know my blogging friend Deb (Sidewalk Crossings) was there too. Good memories!
Best wishes,
Laura
