Move-In Day at UC San Diego

It's hard to believe a full decade has passed since our oldest daughter experienced her first "move-in day" at the University of Southern California. She graduated in 2010.

The year after her graduation, our oldest son began his freshman year at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where he graduated last May.

Meanwhile our younger daughter, who married last summer, is about to begin her senior year at the University of Oregon in Eugene. We'll be traveling up there next month to see one of her final football games performing in the Ducks Marching Band.

Today it was time for our youngest son to make the big move to college, starting his freshman year at the University of California at San Diego. He plans to study international relations.

He's actually moved in ahead of many students, as he has his orientation tomorrow, and more students will be arriving over the next few days.

Here are a few shots of the beautiful campus in La Jolla, California. Click any photo to enlarge for a closer look.

The view from in front of our son's dorm at UCSD's Eleanor Roosevelt College:

Near the campus bookstore and food court:

Geisel Library, named for university benefactors Theodor and Audrey Geisel. You know him better as "Dr. Seuss."

Another view of the library in the distance:

I took the next three photos of the library on our tour day last April. The library contains original art from the Dr. Seuss books.

Back to today:

Incidentally, UC San Diego was named one of the nation's Top 10 public universities in the brand-new rankings from U.S. News and World Report. Washington Monthly just named UC San Diego the top public university in the country, a ranking it has held for the past seven years.

We're proud of our son's academic accomplishments to date and look forward to him having a great experience at UC San Diego!
