Disney California Adventure: Oogie Boogie Bash 2021

Last week we made our first return visit to a fully open Disney theme park since March 2020!

We attended the Oogie Boogie Bash, a separately ticketed Halloween party in Disney California Adventure. I also attended the party with our oldest daughter in 2019.

Last December we were able to Christmas shop on the park's Buena Vista Street, but that was a rather strange experience with most of the park completely quiet. It was rather emotional for me to finally be back inside the park under normal (or nearly so) conditions.

The evening also provided our first opportunity to see the new Avengers Campus and ride the new Web Slingers ride. I'll share Avengers Campus photos in a separate post in the near future.

Disney California Adventure was dressed up in its Halloween best for the party! Above is the Carthay Circle by day...and below, by night. As can be seen below, there were some fun light projections on the building for the party.

We enjoyed a wonderful chicken dinner at Flo's V8 Cafe in Cars Land.

Here are some of the Cars Land Halloween decorations during day light hours:

And here's Cars Land at night:

Once again this year we visited numerous "treat trails," and our bags were overflowing to such an extent that let's just say we won't need to spend anything on Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters this year!

Characters seen along the treat trails included the party's host, Oogie Boogie, from the 1993 film THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS...

...Cruella, from the new CRUELLA (2021) film...

...and Maleficent of SLEEPING BEAUTY (1959) and MALEFICENT (2014):

Here comes the Headless Horseman from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in Disney's THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD (1949).

Shortly after the Headless Horseman's appearance it was time for this year's edition of the Frightfully Fun Parade! We've found Hollywood Land a great spot to watch the parade.

The Haunted Mansion float is quite impressive...

...including dancing ghosts seen through the mansion windows:

The SLEEPING BEAUTY float, including dragon:

Villains Grove at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail was again an impressive walk-through experience.

There were beautiful lighting effects throughout...

...which once again included a rose-scented Queen of Hearts display.

A spooky forest which included "lightning strikes"!

I especially love the peaceful conclusion to the walk as you leave the darkness and "walk toward the light":

That evening I also picked up my first popcorn bucket in over a year and a half!

Plus some fudge for my husband:

What a wonderful night!! It was absolutely wonderful to return to our "happy place" and forget the unusual problems of the last year and a half.

I am once again an annual passholder, with a Magic Key -- the new name for annual passes -- which gives me access to the parks 365 days a year, providing reservations are available. (Having to make advance reservations is a big change which I believe is here to stay.) I'll be sharing some Disneyland Halloween Time photos here in the near future along with the previously mentioned Avengers Campus photos.
