Quick Preview of TCM in March

The annual 31 Days of Oscar festival returns to Turner Classic Movies in March 2023.

As was also the case last year, TCM's Academy Awards month is being held in March to correspond with the month of the Oscars ceremony. The Academy Awards will be presented in Hollywood on Sunday, March 12th.

The working schedule still has a number of slots  yet to be filled, but we do know that this year the films shown on TCM will be grouped by theme.

Some of the programming themes will be family dramas, historical dramas, sports, reporters, war films, fantasy, and quite a few more.

Regular TCM viewers know there don't tend to be many surprises during Oscars month, as every film shown must have been nominated for an Academy Award, but it's also a month of high-quality viewing.

As usual, the regular TCM franchises such as Noir Alley and Silent Sunday Nights will take Oscars month off.

I'll have more information on 31 Days of Oscar here around March 1st. In the meantime, look for Rita Moreno as the February Star of the Month.

Ugh. I guess this means another March where I won't be watching TCM as every movie they show is one they've shown 100 times before, except that is if it's one of the great Paramount or 20th Century movies. Sure would like to see the kind of vintage movies AMC USED to show, those Paramount movies, in particular the Bing Crosbys and other comedy classics they'd show. I just missed the variety of movies seen then. TCM ought to start showing movies from studios other than MGM and Warners. Yes, they do show a select few once in a great while but not nearly often enough. But March is the worst TCM month for me.

I hope this doesn’t prevent TCM from celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th like they did last year! We Irish are only asking for one day to celebrate our heritage. I have enjoyed watching ‘The Quiet Man’ with my family at 8 pm on St. Patrick’s Day for years only to have it taken away last year. We only ask for one day!☘️

I love Oscar month! It will take me years to see them all. Tv is rarely worth watching outside of the classics!

Anonymous, alas, no St. Patrick's Day lineup this year! And no QUIET MAN - you may want to invest in a DVD or Blu-ray to cover you this year... :)

Lee, I wish it wasn't more expensive for TCM to license films from studios like Paramount 20th as there are many movies we'd all like to see. My understanding is the licensing budget is a big reason we see relatively few films from those studios.

Anonymous, I hope you'll enjoy all the movies on TCM this March! Lots of good viewing.

Best wishes,
Laura
