Al Gore, Go Home
Today saw the debut of Al Gore's commercials in support of California's Proposition 87, which would impose a huge new tax on gasoline. (Just what we need right now, right?)
Supposedly the oil companies would pay the tax and not pass the cost on to consumers. And if you believe that would happen, there's a bridge...
Al, if the market is there for alternative fuels, private industry will manage just fine. The government doesn't need to waste billions of our tax dollars to "encourage" that development.

I'd like to see a simple proposition requiring fuel prices to be broken down to the retail price and the tax separately so that the public not only feels the pinch but knows where it came from.
Amen to that! I'd love to see that posted on every gas pump. :)
One of the only ballot initiatives I like is Prop. 1A, which will help ensure that gas taxes actually go for things like roads instead of being diverted to elsewhere in the CA budget.

Okay, I just saw the ad. I think they call that carpet bagging, don't they? And since WHEN does Algore care that we're dependent on on "foreign oil." Just WHO has is preventing us from being dependent on "foreign oil?" Aargh!
You know, you raise a great point, I bet Al Gore sure doesn't want us drilling in Alaska (or off the CA coast for that matter)... THAT would sure reduce our dependence in foreign oil. :)
