Scratching My Head

I've been debating today whether to say anything about Elizabeth Edwards' odd interview about her scary "rabid, rabid Republican" neighbor, who she "wouldn't be nice to...anyway."

The thing that I find puzzling is...let's take it as a given that Mrs. Edwards has these negative feelings about her gun-owning, Giuliani-supporting neighbor.

What I don't get is why would she feel it's constructive, as the wife of a Presidential candidate, to give that kind of interview unloading her negative feelings toward one specific person? What did she hope to accomplish?

I wondered if this was a big 'uh-oh' moment for her in retrospect? Perhaps it was one of those moments where the mouth didn't wait for the brain to think it through. A puzzler for sure. And no doubt, if Edwards was really a top contender, the right would latch onto it and make it an 'issue'....

The odd thing is that Mrs. Edwards, or someone connected to the campaign, added more fuel to the fire by posting more "facts" about her neighbor in the comments of a post at the blog Betsy's Page. (I assume this was not a fake post since she has been known to post at places like Democrat Underground in the past.) She doesn't seem to know when to quit...one would think that by now she would have had that "uh-oh" moment, as you suggest, and back off once the brain engaged. One would hope a potential first lady would be a bit more dignified...
