New on DVD: The Jungle Book (1967)

Tuesday, October 2nd, is the release date of the 40th Anniversary Platinum Edition of Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK.

The Disney Platinum Editions are always very special releases with plentiful extras. Digitally Obsessed has a detailed rundown on the extras, as well as a review.

I was interested to learn that Mowgli was voiced by Bruce Reitherman, the son of the movie's director, Wolfgang Reitherman. Bruce Reitherman was also the voice of Christopher Robin in WINNIE THE POOH AND THE HONEY TREE IN 1966.

Trivia fans might enjoy knowing that the little girl at the end of the movie was voiced by Darleen Carr, who would later play Karl Malden's daughter on THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. Carr is married to Jameson Parker of SIMON AND SIMON. Her older sister, Charmian, was Liesl in THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

THE JUNGLE BOOK is special to me as it was one of the first movies I ever saw on the big screen -- in fact, I saw it at a drive-in movie theater, talk about a blast from the past! I'm looking forward to adding this set to our Disney shelf.
