Meryl Streep to Play Julia Child
Meryl Streep has been signed to play Julia Child in JULIE AND JULIA, based on the book by Julie Powell.
Powell, a secretary, chronicled her attempts to make all the recipes in Child's MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING in a year's time. Powell will be played by Amy Adams, who was Oscar-nominated for JUNEBUG and stars in the upcoming Disney comedy/fantasy ENCHANTED.
I haven't read the book -- I perused it, as the concept intrigued me, but frankly I was turned off by foul language -- so am curious how the film will include Julia Child, as Powell didn't actually know her. Child died in 2004, the year before Powell published her book. According to Amazon, Powell "imaginatively reconstructs episodes from Child's life in the 1940s," so that may provide a hint as to how Child's character will be incorporated into the film.
The film will be written and directed by Nora Ephron of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and YOU'VE GOT MAIL.
Given the track record of the cast and crew, I have high hopes this will be an entertaining film.

This does sound like a good one. Nora Ephron is reliable as certainly Streep (thank God its not about their politics!).
Yes, sometimes I just groan and look the other way when it comes to these people's politics, as long as the movie is good (grin).
Best wishes,
Laura
