Coming to DVD: Saludos Amigos (1942) and The Three Caballeros (1944)

April 29th Disney is releasing a "Classic Caballeros Collection" containing both SALUDOS AMIGOS and THE THREE CABALLEROS.

Each film has had previous a DVD release as part of Disney's Gold Collection.

One of the extras from the Gold edition of SALUDOS AMIGOS has carried over to this new release, an interesting 1942 short titled SOUTH OF THE BORDER WITH DISNEY. This short shows Walt Disney, Mary Blair, and other Disney artists on a tour of South America. Both films were made as part of a policy to improve relations between the U.S. and Latin American countries during World War II.

The extra cartoons which accompanied the original release of THE THREE CABALLEROS appear to be different in this new set.

As I mentioned in my post on Epcot, a ride in the Mexico Pavilion was recently remodeled with a Three Caballeros theme, and they had some nice Three Caballeros merchandise for sale in Florida. I suspect that this new double release may be timed, in part, as part of the marketing push related to the ride.

These are fun, colorful movies which are worth checking out if you're a Disney fan who hasn't caught up with them yet.
