New on DVD: Forbidden Hollywood, Vol. 2

Tuesday, March 4th sees the release of the new DVD set Forbidden Hollywood Collection, Volume 2.

This set of "pre-Code" movies, made before enforcement of moral standards in films began in mid-1934, is a follow-up to last year's release of Volume 1.

The five films included in the set are THE DIVORCEE (1929) and A FREE SOUL (1931), both starring Norma Shearer; NIGHT NURSE (1931), starring Barbara Stanwyck; THREE ON A MATCH (1932) starring Ann Dvorak, Bette Davis, and Joan Blondell; and FEMALE (1933), starring Ruth Chatterton.

Actors appearing in these films include Clark Gable (two titles), Robert Montgomery, and George Brent.

THE DIVORCEE and NIGHT NURSE have commentaries. The set also contains a new documentary on the pre-Code era, THOU SHALT NOT SIN.

Further details on the set can be found at DVD Times.

All of the movies, as well as the documentary, are airing on Turner Classic Movies on Monday, March 3, 2008.

March 15th Update: Here's a review of the set from Glenn Erickson at DVD Savant.
