Today Queen Elizabeth II and members of the British royal family attended a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Sir Edmund Hillary at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
Sir Edmund passed away in January. Previously a state funeral was held in New Zealand.
The Queen and Sir Edmund are linked in history, as by happy coincidence, word of the great explorer's feat reaching the summit of Mount Everest arrived in England on the day of the Queen's coronation in 1953.
Some lovely photographs of the service can be found here.
