"Acres of Books: The Final Chapter"

As related here previously, the famed Long Beach used bookstore Acres of Books has sold its location to a redevelopment agency.

The store has now announced they have been unable to find a suitable place to relocate, and Acres of Books will be closing permanently.

More from yesterday's L.A. Times, including a photo gallery.

I went by for perhaps my final time the end of June. Just maybe daughter and I will get there before its gone. So sad. Just like in the article I remember my Dad going there and coming home with delightful books.

I have so many wonderful books on my shelves thanks to Acres of Books! I think I can point most of them out. In some cases I have very vivid memories of the "discovery," I can even visualize the part of the store where I found certain long-sought titles.

I'm glad we at least had it as long as we did...

Best wishes,
Laura
