Living in Mr. Blandings' Dream House

Carrie at Classic Montgomery links to a fun story: prior to the 1948 release of MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE, the studio sent blueprints of the house to contractors all over the country to encourage replicas to be built.

73 "Blandings" homes were built. Carrie found a recent article about the version built in Fresno, California. The photo of the home is gorgeous. A copy of the same article in The Miami Herald includes an additional photo of the interior.

MR. BLANDINGS, which starred Cary Grant and Myrna Loy, is available on single-title DVD or in the Cary Grant Signature Collection. It's also on video.

What a great bit of film history. Love the movie so much and think if one lived in one of those homes, it would be all the more charming and 'home' like.

Well, you learn something new every day. I never knew the studio had sent out blueprints to have these homes built. That was a neat article about the family in Fresno.
