Christmas Music: Amy Grant

As I wrote nearly three years ago, Amy Grant's Christmas albums are among our family's favorite music of the season. We have all four of her previous releases, including an album which was an exclusive Hallmark release.

I was thus excited to hear that this year Grant has a new album, THE CHRISTMAS COLLECTION. Unfortunately it's not completely good news: it turns out that the album is largely a compilation of tracks from Grant's previous albums.

The CD does have four brand-new tracks, including Irving Berlin's "Count Your Blessings." Given that, along with how much we like Grant's past albums, I'll probably be adding this to our collection despite our disappointment that it's not all-new material. It will be interesting to see which older tracks were selected for this mix.

A side note: "Tennessee Christmas," which Grant co-wrote for her first Christmas album, has become a modern Christmas standard which has since been covered by many other artists.

Previous Christmas Music 2008 Posts: Kristin Chenoweth, Harry Connick Jr., and Sarah Brightman.

Based on that gown, she's apparently celebrating Christmas on a cruise ship in the tropics! A pretty dress and nice CD cover, but BBBRRRR. ;-)

I don't know that I'll get another of her Christmas albums, especially with only four new songs. (Are the others even new recordings or just a copy/paste, so to speak?) iTunes has all 18 tracks available individually. I'll have to figure out which are the new tracks and maybe buy just buy those, if I like them.
