Mark Steyn on Meet Me In St. Louis

Mark Steyn provides a great read for the first day of December with his history and analysis of the musical MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (1944).

Steyn opens his column by noting the recent death of screenwriter Irving Brecher. He focuses especially on the musical's songs.

If you've not yet caught up with this wonderful movie, which is one of my three all-time favorite films, I highly recommend the Special Edition DVD. Thanks to the Ultra Resolution process which Warners has used on a relatively small number of special releases, the Technicolor looks absolutely spectacular.

Steyn has an interesting-looking new book out, A SONG FOR THE SEASON, a collection of some of his "Song of the Week" columns.

The book is a 280-page hardback containing Steyn's columns on seasonal songs, including "Auld Lang Syne," "Easter Parade," "Summertime," "Autumn Leaves," "White Christmas," and more.
