Miep Gies Turns 100

This Sunday Miep Gies celebrates her 100th birthday.

The name will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has read THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. Miep is one of a small group of people who aided eight Jews, including the Frank family, as they hid from the Nazis for two years.

After the Nazis raided the hiding place, it was Miep who gathered up the pages of Anne's diary and saved them. Anne died in a concentration camp, but the papers were given to Anne's father, the group's sole concentration camp survivor.

Over two decades ago, Miep herself wrote the book ANNE FRANK REMEMBERED: THE STORY OF THE WOMAN WHO HELPED TO HIDE THE FRANK FAMILY.

Wow. I had no idea she was still alive. What an amazing piece of history she not only lived through but actively shaped with her acts of kindness in the face of such evil. That she had presence of mind to collect those pages so Anne's story could be known worldwide and for generations to come leaves me speechless. Thanks so for posting this.
