Sleepless in Seattle: The Musical

Thanks to Missy for alerting me via email that there is a Broadway musical production of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE (1993) in the works.

Plans are for the show to open early in 2010.

The score is by Leslie Bricusse and Jeff Arch, with orchestrations by Ian Fraser.

This continues the trend to use movies as the basis for stage productions. Recent examples include WHITE CHRISTMAS, NINE TO FIVE, and MARY POPPINS, as well as the comedy spoof THE 39 STEPS.

A comedy spoof of The 39 Steps? I wonder what Hitchcock would have thought of that!

You can read more about it here.

My daughter saw the London production in January -- it was perfect timing as she "sat in" on a Hitchcock course at USC last semester and she's taking one for real this semester in London -- and she found it very amusing.

Best wishes,
Laura

I always suspect someone has run out of creative ideas when they decide to make a musical out of a successful film...like a desperate manuever...

I love Sleepless as a movie and it's charm carries throughout the film. Why ruin a good thing?
