The Virginian Coming to DVD?

TV Shows on DVD reports there's a rumor afoot that one of my favorite TV Westerns, the long-running series THE VIRGINIAN, may be coming to DVD.

It's not a done deal but it sounds hopeful there will be a release within the year.

I enjoyed the show in all its incarnations, whether the ranch was owned by Lee J. Cobb, Charles Bickford, John McIntire, or Stewart Granger. Roberta Shore and Sara Lane were charming, and there were a great bunch of cowboys on the show including James Drury, Doug McClure, and Clu Gulager. And remember David Hartman before he was a morning TV host? He was on it too.

The show also had one of my favorite '60s Western themes...it's up there with HIGH CHAPPARAL's theme music. I recently bought (too-short) versions of both themes from iTunes.

A great bit of news to launch Labor Day weekend.

Saturday Update: Here's more from Thrilling Days of Yesteryear.
