New on DVD: Colbert, Film Noir, Disney's Zorro
There's been a dearth of classic film releases on DVD this year, but November 3rd is an especially good day for fans of classic film and TV.
First up is the 6-film Claudette Colbert Collection. (Click the title of this post for a link with more info.)
The films in the set are THREE-CORNERED MOON (1933), MAID OF SALEM (1937), I MET HIM IN PARIS (1937), BLUEBEARD'S EIGHTH WIFE (1938), NO TIME FOR LOVE (1943), THE EGG AND I (1947).
Glenn Erickson has reviewed the set in detail. As a Colbert fan, I'm very much looking forward to receiving this set and seeing three new-to-me Colbert titles. (Update: I've now posted reviews of I MET HIM IN PARIS, THREE-CORNERED MOON, and MAID OF SALEM.)
November 3rd is also the release date for Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics Vol. I.
The five titles included are THE SNIPER, THE BIG HEAT, THE LINEUP, MURDER BY CONTRACT, and 5 AGAINST THE HOUSE. Nice extras are included.
Again, Glenn Erickson has details at DVD Savant.
Volume II is expected in 2010. It should include CITY OF FEAR and IN A LONELY PLACE.
Disney's classic TV series Zorro, Seasons 1 and 2, also comes to DVD tomorrow.
Previously Disney released a colorized version, but this Disney Treasures set presents the series in its original black and white.
The ZORRO sets have also been reviewed by Erickson. Watch for detailed reviews to post soon at Ultimate Disney.
Additional releases on November 3rd include an Anniversary Edition of WHITE CHRISTMAS, which repeats many of the extras from the 2004 40th Anniversary edition, and Volume 1 of THE ROCKFORD FILES MOVIE COLLECTION.
November 20 Update: Reviews of ZORRO Season 1 and Season 2 have now been posted at Ultimate Disney.
