Academy Hosting Film Noir Series in So. CA
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will be hosting a film noir series in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater beginning on Monday, May 10th.
This series of classic films, all of which were nominated for an Oscar for story or screenplay, will run Monday evenings until August 30th. Most of the films will be accompanied by a cartoon and a CAPTAIN MARVEL serial.
There is a wonderful lineup of films and guests, with titles including SHADOW OF A DOUBT (1943), LAURA (1944), MILDRED PIERCE (1945), THE KILLERS (1946), THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS (1946), THE BLUE DAHLIA (1946), and KISS OF DEATH (1945).
Scheduled guests include an appearance by Ann Blyth at the screening of MILDRED PIERCE. Blyth was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the movie when she was still a teenager.
The full schedule is posted at the Academy website.
Susan King has written a story on the series for the L.A. Times, and Cartoon Brew has info on programming the cartoons. (Thanks to Ed for the Cartoon Brew link.)
I'm hoping to attend at least a couple films in this series over the summer months.
