In Disney News...

...I was very interested to learn that Turner Classic Movies is teaming with D23 to produce a number of Disney-themed events for the upcoming TCM Festival this spring.

The festival's overall theme is "Music and the Movies," and Disney's contributions to movie music will be spotlighted at several events, including a presentation of Silly Symphonies hosted by Leonard Maltin, a screening of a restored edition of FANTASIA (1940), and a tribute to Disney's live-action musicals.

I wonder if TCM will make any single-event tickets available to D23 members?!

I also wonder if any of the presentations will be repeated at next summer's D23 Expo...I have my ticket!

...This fall Disney plans to release BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991) and THE LION KING (1994) in 3D...only on Blu-ray.

...The U.S. Postal Service will be releasing a series of Pixar stamps in 2011. The stamps will feature TOY STORY, CARS, RATATOUILLE, WALL-E, and UP. They'll be out August 11, 2011.

...The higher-than-usual Annual Passholder shopping discounts available at Disneyland throughout 2010 have been extended through the end of 2011...and the $10 minimum purchase is now being waived.

Premium passes receive 20% off merchandise and other passes receive a 10% discount.

...As always, there's lots of Disneyland news in Al's latest update at MiceAge...the planned changes to the Matterhorn bobsleds are horrifying. Something works fine for decades and then the lawyers get paranoid...lap bars?! This is the same kind of thinking that's turned the exterior of the Alice in Wonderland ride into an awful mess.

...Director Quentin Tarantino named TOY STORY 3 (2010) the best film of 2010, with THE SOCIAL NETWORK in the No. 2 spot. Disney's TANGLED was his choice for the fifth slot. KNIGHT AND DAY (#12) and THE KING'S SPEECH (#15) made his Top 20.

TCM's Ben Mankiewicz had TOY STORY 3 in the No. 3 position on his "best" list, after THE OTHER GUYS and THE KING'S SPEECH. THE SOCIAL NETWORK was No. 4. KNIGHT AND DAY also made Mankiewicz's list, in the No. 7 spot.

With there being 10 Best Picture nominees again this year, it seems likely that TOY STORY 3 could receive a nomination in that category.

...At the Walt Disney Family Museum's Storyboard blog, Diane Disney Miller recently shared her memories of celebrating Christmas as a child.

...And here's 10 Wishes for 2011 for Disney's theme parks, especially Walt Disney World, from Progress City, U.S.A.

Oh man, I'd love to see Fantasia on the big screen again!

And the poor Matterhorn! Sigh. I think my brother-in-law will never be able to ride it again. He's 6'6" and he can't fit on half the stuff anyway. Matterhorn used to be one of the few he could ride comfortably. This kind of stuff makes me so nostalgic for the Disneyland of my youth.

I'd love to see it too!

I agree re the Matterhorn -- the linked update mentioned that football players who traditionally visit Disneyland around New Year's may not fit in the ride in its new configuration!

Best wishes,
Laura
