Fox Movie Channel in March: Highlights

There are some particularly notable titles joining the Fox Movie Channel schedule in March.

...On March 11th, Fox will show FOREVER AMBER (1947), starring Linda Darnell, Cornel Wilde, George Sanders, and Richard Greene. It was directed by Otto Preminger. I've never seen it, and it's a must for Linda Darnell fans such as myself.

...Also on March 11th, there's the relatively little-known but very enjoyable musical THE GIRL NEXT DOOR (1953), which I reviewed in 2008. This was June Haver's last movie before retiring for marriage and motherhood when she wed Fred MacMurray. It's a Technicolor delight with some charming songs and dances.

...On March 26th, there's a Loretta Young film I've never seen, the classic Southern California tale RAMONA (1936). It costars Don Ameche and was directed by Henry King.

Some other titles airing in March:

...MOTHER IS A FRESHMAN (1949) airs again on March 2nd. It's a cute little movie which will be enjoyed by fans of Loretta Young and Van Johnson.

...The terrific Lubitsch comedy CLUNY BROWN (1946) is on next Sunday, March 6th. It has a wonderful cast including Jennifer Jones, Charles Boyer, Peter Lawford, Helen Walker, and Sir C. Aubrey Smith.

...On March 10th, WING AND A PRAYER (1944) will be shown. It's a WWII film with Dana Andrews, Don Ameche, and an excellent cast.

...Linda Darnell, Laird Cregar, and George Sanders star in John Brahm's HANGOVER SQUARE (1944) on March 14th.

...St. Patrick's Day viewing includes the delightful THE LUCK OF THE IRISH (1948) with Tyrone Power and Anne Baxter, while Ireland's Maureen O'Hara stars in HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY (1941) and MR. HOBBS TAKES A VACATION (1962).

...Baseball's just around the corner, so it's time for Ray Milland in IT HAPPENS EVERY SPRING (1949) on March 19th.

...It's definitely a great month for Linda Darnell fans: on March 24th she stars in CHAD HANNA (1940) with Henry Fonda and Dorothy Lamour.

...Also on the 24th, there's the comedy ELOPEMENT (1951) with Anne Francis, Clifton Webb, and William Lundigan.

...On March 29th, Shirley Temple stars in JUST AROUND THE CORNER (1938).

As always, keep in mind that Fox typically shows films multiple times over several weeks; I've only listed one air date per film. Check the schedule for alternate air dates, as well as for the titles of the many other good films showing on Fox next month.

Happy viewing!

I think that you may find much of Ramona quite effective, Laura. Despite the Anglo casting, (and an unfortunate wig on Don Ameche) the story is still compelling and has moving moments. In an interview 25 years after this film, Gilbert Roland and Dolores del Rio revealed that they had originally been cast, but for box office reasons were replaced. What a shame!

I'm glad to hear it, Moira. I enjoyed the book but have never been able to find this one. Looking forward to it!

Best wishes,
Laura
