Farewell to a Man Who Changed the World

Apple has announced co-founder Steve Jobs, whose innovative creations changed the world we live in, has passed away.

Jobs had a huge impact not only on personal computing and cell phones, but on the film industry, serving as CEO of Pixar Animation for two decades. When it was purchased by Disney in 2006, he joined Disney's board of directors. It seems fitting that Jobs became part of Disney, as both Jobs and Walt Disney were visionaries who each had a tremendous impact on world culture.

Jobs' death was not entirely unexpected, as he had battled pancreatic cancer for years and just retired as CEO of Apple in late August. Nonetheless, the news is sending shock waves.

As I glance over at my iPod Nano and iPhone, which are never far from my side, and also reflect on the tremendous quality of Pixar films over the years, I realize anew just how much his work has impacted the life of my entire family, and indeed, the world. The passing of such an innovative, creative person is a great loss.

My sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.

As we've emailed and Tweeted, it's shocking how sad this is. We knew it was coming, but still a shock.

What an innovator! And how he's touched our lives with the ideas he turned into tools for our lives.
