Coming to DVD: Randolph Scott Westerns Collection

There's happy news for fans of Randolph Scott Westerns, with the announcement of the new Randolph Scott Westerns Collection coming from the TCM Vault Collection.

The four-film set will be released by TCM on September 2, 2013. All of the films in the set are new to DVD.

The titles are CORONER CREEK (1948), which I reviewed in 2011, THE WALKING HILLS (1949), reviewed here in 2010, THE DOOLINS OF OKLAHOMA (1949), and 7TH CAVALRY (1956).

THE WALKING HILLS and THE DOOLINS OF OKLAHOMA are in black and white, CORONER CREEK is in Cinecolor, and 7TH CAVALRY is in Technicolor.

As noted by Toby at 50 Westerns From the 50s, 7TH CAVALRY was released in 1.85 widescreen. The TCM listing for the entire set simply says "fullscreen," but hopefully that's an error. Given the reputation for quality TCM has built with the TCM Vault series, it's hard to imagine they'd release a film in pan and scan.

The set will include an introduction by Ben Mankiewicz, as well as stills, lobby cards, and posters.

TCM's Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics, Vol. 4 will be out a month ahead of the Scott set. Time for classic film fans to start saving their pennies -- there's great movies ahead!

Update: The TCM Shop now lists the release date for this set as December 2, 2013. The Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics, Vol. 4 release has been pushed back to September 16, 2013.
