Coming to DVD from Columbia Classics and Olive Films

There was marvelous DVD news this past week, which I first read thanks to ClassicFlix: The Sony Choice/Columbia Classics "MOD" line is releasing MARY RYAN, DETECTIVE (1949) starring Marsha Hunt.

I had the pleasure of seeing a restored print of MARY RYAN at the 2012 Noir City Film Festival. It was shown as part of a "B" movie marathon which included a personal appearance by Miss Hunt.  Fans of the B's and Marsha Hunt will have a lot of fun being able to see this one at last.

Amazon shows that the movie is already available for order.

ClassicFlix also had the scoop on the amazing lineup coming from Olive Films this July.

Titles include one of my all-time favorite Cary Grant films, OPERATION PETTICOAT (1959); the interesting-looking SO THIS IS NEW YORK (1948) with Harry Morgan, Rudy Vallee, and Virginia Grey; MR. PEABODY AND THE MERMAID (1948) with William Powell and Ann Blyth; CAUGHT (1949) starring James Mason, Robert Ryan, and Barbara Bel Geddes; and several more very interesting titles.

I've been impressed with the wonderful DVD cover work which Olive is turning out on a consistent basis. Olive's covers rival Criterion for arresting and attractive artwork.
