New Trailer: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
A new trailer was released tonight for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (2016). It pushes every STAR WARS fan button possible, beginning with the faint strains of John Williams' "The Imperial March" and concluding with Jyn (Felicity Jones) approaching a TIE fighter...wow, what a shot.
ROGUE ONE is the story of the rebels who obtain the Death Star plans which are in the hands of Princess Leia and R2-D2 at the beginning of STAR WARS (1977).
Based on the trailer, the movie successfully captures the look and feel of the original film and its very "lived-in" universe.
As seen in the goose-bumpy end to the trailer, the movie includes the return of Darth Vader, who will again be voiced by James Earl Jones, four decades after he created one of the most famous villains in movie history.
Also returning is Mon Mothma of RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983), with Genevieve O'Reilly playing a slightly younger version of the role played by Caroline Blakiston in 1983.
I also note that Jimmy Smits reprises his role as Princess Leia's adoptive father, Senator Bail Organa, which he first played in REVENGE OF THE SITH (2005). After being disappointed in the first two "prequels," I never bothered to see that one.
THE FORCE AWAKENS (2015) was a very good film and it was wonderful revisiting old friends, but it's ROGUE ONE which strikes me as having the potential to be something really special.
We'll find out on December 16th.
