Oregon Autumn

A couple weekends ago we had a wonderful visit with our daughter and son-in-law in Eugene, Oregon.

Although there are locations in Southern California, we'd never previously been to an Original Pancake House, where we all had breakfast the first morning of our visit. The chain was founded in Portland. We enjoyed it very much, although I think Elmer's remains our favorite breakfast in Oregon.

The Original Pancake House restaurant lobby was filled with Oregon-specific decor, including this 1958 decal with a University of Oregon Donald Duck logo which is still in widespread use today.

The fall colors were simply beautiful. Below is the University of Oregon Administration Building, which will be familiar to fans of ANIMAL HOUSE (1978).

A walk near the Administration Building:

The Lillis Business Complex is one of the better-known sites on the University of Oregon campus.

Friday afternoon we took a walk with our daughter and her dog Jemma, who's named for Agent Jemma Simmons on Marvel's AGENTS OF SHIELD TV series.

Who wouldn't want to go for a walk with views like this?!

Our destination, my favorite place in Oregon, Dutch Bros.! Their hot chocolate is second to none.

That afternoon we watched the Oregon Ducks Marching Band rehearse their half-time show and then perform in a brief Homecoming/Family Weekend parade:

Next day we had a grand time at Autzen Stadium, where the Ducks beat ASU.

The chance to see our daughter performing in the Marching Band in one of her final home games before graduating next spring was the main impetus for traveling north this fall.

Despite predictions of rain on game day, we were blessed with gorgeous weather, much different from the rainy day we spent at Autzen two years ago. And yes, we had more Dutch Bros. at the game!

Sunday morning was very rainy, but that didn't stop my husband from hiking Spencer Butte with the kids and Jemma.

It was a wonderful trip, and we'll be back in Eugene next June for our daughter's college graduation!
