It's been raining hard this weekend in Southern California, but with light rain forecast this morning we decided to slip over to Disneyland for a few hours.
An advantage to going to the park when it's raining is it tends to be a lot less crowded!
Disneyland is now calling February Valentine's Month, turning it in to a festive time at the park along the lines of Halloween Time.
In the past there have been subtle nods to the holiday with decorations at Town Square and pink flowers here and there, but this year the decorations are much more elaborate. (I didn't get as many photos as I otherwise might have due to keeping my camera dry when it was raining harder!)
There are also special menu items and a Minnie’s Valentine’s Day Surprise Scavenger Hunt Experience.
The Valentine's Hunt is similar to the Easter Egg Hunt the park has provided the past few years; for a small fee visitors receive a map with hints, stickers, and a prize, which was a package of Disney valentines.
As each Valentine is spotted the corresponding sticker is placed on the map. My daughter and I enjoy doing these hunts as a fun way to enjoy the park together, not to mention get some exercise. In our relatively brief visit today we walked three miles!
Here's a shot of the Mark Twain on a gloomy day. The rain started coming down hard just after this photo was taken.
One of the Valentines was next to Figaro the Cat in Fantasy Faire:
My favorite animated Disney animals are a pair of cats, Figaro from PINOCCHIO (1940) and Dinah from ALICE IN WONDERLAND (1951), so I was happy to bring home my own Figaro today!
I hope to visit Disney California Adventure next weekend to enjoy the Lunar New Year Celebration.
Early wishes for a Happy Valentine's Day!
