In Disney News...

...Actress Virginia Davis, who starred in Walt Disney's silent ALICE series, has passed away at the age of 90.

Several of the Alice comedies were released on DVD in the Disney Treasures Disney Rareties set.

Davis played Joan Blondell as a child in THREE ON A MATCH (1932) and was one of THE HARVEY GIRLS (1946). She was named a Disney Legend in 1998.

...October 13 Disney will publish a PETER PAN picture book illustrated with Mary Blair's sketches for the animated film. PETER PAN joins the previously published CINDERELLA and ALICE IN WONDERLAND which are also illustrated with Blair sketches. CINDERELLA and ALICE are recommended for those who enjoy the art of Disney and/or Mary Blair.

...A new documentary, WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY, will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.

The film is described as "the true story of how the Disney animation team went from stagnation in the mid-1980s to a startling rebirth with a staggering output of hits – WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, THE LITTLE MERMAID, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ALADDIN, THE LION KING and more – over a ten year period."

...SOUTH OF THE BORDER WITH DISNEY: WALT DISNEY AND THE GOOD NEIGHBOR PROGRAM 1941-1948 by J.B. Kaufman should be a very interesting slice of Disney film history. It will be published October 20, 2009.

...The movie lineup has been announced for the D23 expo.

Wow! That is some lineup. This D23 Expo sounds more and more exciting as the time draws closer. I am a "fan" on Facebook and almost every day they release some new little tidbit of information. Unfortunately I just can not afford to go to this event but am looking forward to hearing all the "trip reports".
Also as I side note, I did have to sign a confidentiality agreement when I did that survey. They didn't want to spoil the integrity of the study by having people discuss it.

Thanks for the update, Irene! I completely understand, I've done focus groups myself and that does come up.

I am still debating whether we can afford for at least a couple of us to go check out the Expo for a day or two...

Best wishes,
Laura
