Julie Adams Coming to the Egyptian Theatre

We spent a wonderful evening at the Egyptian Theatre tonight celebrating the 50th anniversary of the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. (More on that coming soon!)

While we were there we bought tickets to another marvelous event coming in late October: an evening celebrating Julie Adams. Those who have read my reminisces of appearing in a play with Miss Adams many moons ago will understand why attending this evening is particularly exciting for me.

The evening will include screenings of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954) -- in 3D, no less -- and Anthony Mann's terrific Western BEND OF THE RIVER (1952), also starring James Stewart, Arthur Kennedy, and Rock Hudson.

I've never seen CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, and I've never seen BEND OF THE RIVER on the big screen, so it promises to be a great evening moviewise.

In addition to the films, Alan K. Rode will interview Miss Adams in between the films. Mr. Rode always does a wonderful job at these events. I've been fortunate to see him speak several times in the past year, at both UCLA and at the Noir City Film Festival.

Miss Adams will also be signing her new book, THE LUCKY SOUTHERN STAR: REFLECTIONS FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

2011 has been filled with some really special moviegoing experiences, and they're not over yet!

Tell Julie "hi" from Caftan Woman's husband. No need to mention the "hubba-hubba.

I felt a cold coming on last week so snuggled on the couch and watched "Bend of the River". It's my comfort food movie.
