Disneyland: Trains of Disney

Trains of Disney is an excellent new exhibit in the Disney Gallery at Disneyland.

It includes original designs and artwork by some of Disney's best-known Imagineers. Click any photo to enlarge.

Here's a design for the Mine Train through Nature's Wonderland by Marc Davis, one of Disney's famed "Nine Old Men":

The Viewliner was at Disneyland for a short time in the late '50s. It was designed by Bob Gurr, who we were privileged to meet at a D23 event earlier this year:

Gurr, who designed many of the park's ride vehicles, also designed the Excursion Car on the Disneyland Railroad and the cars on the Casey Jr. Circus Train:

These color designs for Casey Jr. were by Bruce Bushman:

An interesting bit of trivia is that Bushman was the son of silent film star Francis X. Bushman.

According to the exhibit information, Casey Jr. was originally envisioned as a thrill ride!

Here's a concept of the Disneyland Railroad designed by Sam McKim:

Classic film fans may know McKim for his pre-Disney work as a child actor.

This concept for the Main Street Train Station was by Dorothea Holt Redmond:

Additional photos can be found in the Dateline Disneyland column at MiceChat or at Theme Park Insider, and here's a look at some of the related merchadise available.

Laura,
Growing up so close to Disneyland we were lucky enough to go a lot and it was fun to see how the park grew and changed throughout the years. Fond memories of family trips and school outings the The Happiest Place on Earth.
I really enjoyed this look at the sketches and train photos.
