Orange County, CA, Schools Demand Computer Payments

It really doesn't seem reasonable for a public school to be requiring parents to fork over $1500 for a laptop computer or leave the school.

My own homeschooled children use a computer for learning activities part of the day, and it can definitely be a valuable learning and research tool. That said, computers are really not necessary in order to obtain a solid education.

What's most important is what's always been most important: lots of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

The Orange County Register and L.A. Times also covered this story in December.
